En
menos de un mes, pisa suelo aragüeño, la segunda
reina de la belleza mundial. Se trata de la exuberante Mariana
Valente, “Miss Canadá 2009”, que ayer
llegó al país y su primera visita fue al Diario
el Aragüeño, donde desbordó belleza,
inteligencia y dejó impregnada su dulce sonrisa.
Durante 10 días estará
en manos de “La Zarina de la Belleza”, Katty
Pulido, quien se encargará de “pulir”
el maquillaje, la pasarela y la oratoria a la beldad canadiense.
Mariana estuvo acompañada de Denis Dávila,
presidente del Miss Canadá.
Mariana nació en Brasil
y a los 12 años se mudó a Canadá, donde
adquirió la nacionalidad, es profesora de francés,
también habla portugués e inglés. Para

¡Soltó una sonora carcajada!, y nos respondió:
Claro, pero te digo algo, yo pienso que para triunfar no
basta la belleza física, pienso la belleza interior
es la más importante.
¿Eres esclava de tu imagen?
No, la utilizó en el sentido positivo para ayudar
a quien me necesite.
¿Cuántas veces te miras al espejo?
Varias, las necesarias para chequera que todo esté
en orden.
¿Qué no te gusta de tu cuerpo?
Yo creo que tengo varias cosas que puedo mejorar, pero no
es nada que me desagrade, estoy conforme con mi anatomía.
¿Cuál es la dieta de Mariana Valente?
No tengo necesidad de hacer dietas, soy delgada y como de
todo.
¿Eres obsesionada de las marcas?
No, yo escojo la ropa que me quede bien, no soy muy exigente
con las marcas.
¿De ganar o no el Miss Universo, que te atrae del
mundo del espectáculo?
El modelaje, definitivamente.
¿Tienes novio?
Tengo a alguien muy especial en Canadá.
¿Para qué eres indecisa?
He sido un poco indecisa a la hora de escoger mi carrera,
pero definitivamente escogí la más acertada,
maestra de francés.
¿Eres ingenua?

Mi madre.

Lo más difícil fue asumir el reto de ser una
figura pública que debe comunicarse con todas las

Estar arreglada durante la mayor parte del tiempo, pero
es necesario y lo asumo. Antes era una mujer sencilla y
natural, sin tanto arreglo personal.

¡No te dejes influenciar, porque me ves que soy tímida!
¿Qué es lo mejor que han dicho de ti?
Que soy humilde y agradecida.
¿Cuál ha sido el mayor logro en tu vida?
Desde hace 3 años cree con mi familia una Fundación,
que ayuda a los pobres en Brasil, ese trabajo me llena el
espíritu como ser humano.

La incertidumbre del mañana.

En Dios.

La belleza puede ser un vehículo porque te permite

les gustaba mucho eso, pero él es una persona especial
y muy cariñoso.

Muy ocupada, pero muy agradable de conocer a personas de

“Mariana es una muchacha muy fuerte en todo el sentido

pero su fuerza arrolladora en pasarela, no tuvo discusión
y desde el comienzo se convirtió en la gran favorita.

Dávila que lleva 7
años al frente del Miss Canadá, refirió
que el éxito de que la canadiense se destaque en
el Miss Universo, se debe al equipo multidisciplinario,
“no tenemos un molde” se escoge a la candidata
y comienzan a prepararla como Dios manda. “Siempre
destacamos el potencial de cada candidata”.
En cuanto a su trabajo con
Katty Pulido, dijo: “Katty lleva 5 años trabajando
con nosotros, esa experiencia ha sido maravillosa, nos vamos
a enfocar en ciertas áreas que hay que mejorar, ella
es una mujer excelente que sí el jurado tiene tiempo
de conocerla se va a enamorar de ella, el maquillaje es

el mundo con maquilladores, pero Katty para mí está

MISS UNIVERSE® CANADA 2009 RESULTS
Toronto,
ON May 16, 2009 - Mariana Valente, a 23-year old student
of languages at York University, was crowned Miss Universe
Canada 2009 during an event held at the John Bassett Theatre
in Toronto on May 16th.
Valente, who was born in Brazil and moved
to Canada at age 12, stands 1.75 m tall and she will represent
Canada at the Miss Universe pageant in the Bahamas on August
23rd.
The 1st runner-up was model Ylenia Aurucci
(26), who had been a contestant in Canada's Next Top Model
and resides in Victoria, British Columbia; 2nd runner-up
was Ksenia Mezenina of Toronto, Ontario, 3rd runner-up was
Neda Derakhshan from Calgary, Alberta and the 4th runner-up
was Isabelle Grastin of Toronto.
TingJia Lorogiano won the People's Choice
Award, while Chanel Beckenlehner won the Miss Elegance and
Audience Favorite prizes; Xiao Sun was awarded Best Runway,
and Cristina Heslenfeld won the Best in Swimwear award.
The
winners of these awards automatically advance to the top
20. The final competition will take place on Saturday, May
16, where Canada's representative will be selected for the
upcoming 2009 Miss Universe Pageant in the Bahamas in August.

The 58th Annual Miss Universe® Canada Pageant
The Metro Toronto Convention Centre's 'John Bassett Theatre'
to host the
2009 Miss Universe Canada Pageant.
Toronto, ON (Wednesday, January 21, 2009) - A Canadian
tradition, Miss Universe Canada is the Canadian representative
sent to compete at the annual Miss Universe® pageant.
Canada is one of only four countries (along with France,
Germany, and the USA) which has competed in each Miss Universe
pageant since its inception in 1952.
The 58th annual Miss Universe® Canada Pageant will be
held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre's 'John Bassett
Theatre in Toronto. With an established reputation, the
Metro Toronto Convention Centre's John Bassett Theatre has
been chosen to be the host venue for the 2009 Miss Universe®
Canada Pageant for the second time.
Over 60 delegates from across Canada will be in Toronto
beginning Friday May 8th to to kick off Pageant activities
and spend time getting to know each other, rehearsing for
the show, and visiting Toronto and the surrounding area
and will compete for the title of Miss Universe® Canada
2009 awarded on Saturday, May 16th 2009.
The reigning Miss Universe® Dayana Mendoza from Venezuela
will be in Toronto as one of the selected panel of judges
while the reigning Miss Universe® Canada, Samantha Tajik
will assist in crowning her successor before a live audience.
The pageant consists of two separate audience attended events:
Pageant Presentation Show (Thursday, May 14, 2009) All 60+
delegates from across Canada compete before a live audience
and a ten-person judging panel in the traditional categories
(Swimwear and Evening Gown) for the chance to be selected
as one of the Judges' 15 semi-finalists. In addition, 5
segment winners (more details to come soon), will be joining
the group of semi-finalists for a chance to win the title.
Miss Universe® Canada 2009 Pageant Finals Show (Saturday,
May 16, 2009) The top 20 semi-finalists from Thursday's
Pageant Presentation Show will compete for the title of
Miss Universe® Canada 2009 in front of the same ten-person
judging panel as well as our live audience in the traditional
categories (Swimwear and Evening Gown), plus the addition
of a live interview/question and answer segment. However,
all 60+ delegates will be involved in production numbers
throughout the show.
Miss Universe® Canada delegates are selected each year
by competing in local and regional casting calls and pageants
held in select areas across the country. 'Beauties of Canada'
has the exclusive rights to send a Canadian representative

Mendoza is 22 years-old and her career ambition is to
become an Interior Designer. She also enjoys photography

President of the Miss Universe Organization announced
today that the host of NBCs hit summer show, Americas
Got Talent, Jerry Springer and actress/singer Mel
B will host the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant live on NBC
(simulcast on Telemundo) from the Crown Convention Center
in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam on Sunday, July 13th
at 9:00 p.m. ET (delayed PT).
Cultural
icon Jerry Springer, host for 17 seasons of the hit talk
show "The Jerry Springer Show," as well as the
host of "America's Got Talent," boasts a resume
that includes such diverse roles as: Mayor of Cincinnati,
political pundit, lawyer, award-winning newscaster, country
recording artist, international emcee, TV personality,
author, movie star, progressive talk-radio broadcaster
and ballroom dancer on the hit "Dancing with the
Stars." His popularity has also led him to be a favorite
guest-speaker at college campuses across the country,
not to mention a special guest lecturer at Oxford University
in England. Springer has also added a Broadway appearance
to his distinguished list of achievements, starring for
a week in the production of the Rocky Horror Show
Live.
"This
is obviously a great honor and getting to work alongside
Mel B makes it even better," said Springer.
Melanie
Brown, better known as Mel B, has made her mark as an
accomplished singer, actress, producer, designer and TV
personality. Mel B became a household name as Scary
Spice, one of the members of the iconic girl group
the Spice Girls. She has appeared in numerous TV specials,
shows and films as well as on Broadway in the hugely successful
musical Rent. Mel B is currently working on
her third solo album, slated for release in early 2009.
Her newest project, The Singing Office, will
premiere on TLC later this month, with Mel serving as
Executive Producer and Co-Host. Additionally, she was
a finalist on the fifth season of Dancing with the
Stars, where she became a fan favorite with her
dance experience and fun disposition on the dance floor.
She has since become a special events correspondent for
Access Hollywood.

Each
contestant, representing 80 countries from around the
world, will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening
gown and interview as they vie for the coveted title of

celebrated event with distribution in more than 170 countries.
Japan
native, Riyo Mori, Miss Universe 2007 will crown her successor
at the conclusion of the telecast. During her reign, she
has traveled the world as an advocate for HIV/AIDS education,
research, and legislation. The newly crowned Miss Universe
will go on to do the same.

the coveted 2008 Miss Universe crown. The winner of the
2008 Miss Universe® Pageant, which will broadcast

colors of the jewels chosen for the crown have great significance.

On
May 26, Samantha and four of the 2008 finalists (Aleksandra
Malkin, Lina Lombana, Elena Tchemissova and Klaudia Olejnik)
travelled to Managua to spend 10 days in the beautiful
country of Nicaragua.
The purpose of this trip was to work with the American-Nicaraguan
Foundation (ANF) and their projects. Their mission is
to support the neediest sectors in Nicaragua by forging
strategic alliances to procure quality goods and products,
which are distributed to social service organizations
that have been selected based on their effectiveness,
transparency and spirit of service in an effort to achieve
sustainable development through self sufficiency and the
eradication of poverty.
The girls visited housing projects in Mosastepe, Ciudad
Sandino, Mateare, San Juan del Sur, Nandaime and Jinotepe
- Casas Villa Santiago where they say first hand the important
work of the ANF. As well, they visited the S.O.S. Village
in Managua to help celebrate the country's "Mother's
Day". They brought gifts for the mothers and pinatas
for the children, and spent the afternoon visiting with
the children and touring the project.
On Friday they were featured in a fashion show at Plaza
Galeria Santo Domingo shoppin centre titled "Reinas
Por Una Causa" ("Beautiies for a Cause")
to benefit 'Tamizaje para Cancer Cervical a Traves del
Sistema Ginecobono'.
To end the trip, the girls were treated to a relaxing
weekend on the beautiful Corn Island where they shot photos
and videos to promote Nicaragua.
The final activity was a tour of the Canadian Company
'Polaris Geothermal' - a renewable resource company currently
focused on the development of renewable energy in Latin
America. Polaris is currently developing a 66MW geothermal
project in San Jacinto Tizate concession in Nicaragua.
