Canada is one of only four countries (along with France, Germany, and the USA) which have competed in each Miss Universe® pageant since its inception in 1952.

The 61st annual Miss Universe® Canada Pageant will be held at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts (Bluma Appel Theatre) in Toronto. 60 delegates from across Canada will be in Toronto from May 11th to May 20th and will compete for the title of Miss Universe® Canada 2012 awarded on Saturday, May 19th, 2012. The reigning Miss Universe® Canada, Chelsae Durocher will assist in crowning her successor before a live audience. With an established reputation, the Metro St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts Theatre has been chosen to be the host venue for the 2012 Miss Universe® Canada pageant.

The pageant consists of two separate audience attended events:

Pageant Presentation Show (Thursday, May 17th, 2012)

All 60 delegates from across Canada compete before a live audience and a judging panel in the traditional categories (Swimwear and Evening Gown) for the chance to be selected as one of the Judges’ 15 semi-finalists. In addition, 5 segment winners will be joining the group of semi-finalists for a chance to win the title.

Miss Universe® Canada 2012 Pageant Finale Show (Saturday, May 19th, 2012)

The top 20 semi-finalists from Thursday’s Pageant Presentation Show will compete for the title of Miss Universe® Canada 2012 in front of a judging panel as well as our live audience in the traditional categories (Swimwear and Evening Gown), plus the addition of a live interview/question and answer segment. However, all 60 delegates will be involved in production numbers throughout the show.

Miss Universe® Canada delegates are selected each year by competing in local and regional casting calls and pageants held in select areas across the country. ‘Beauties of Canada’ has the exclusive rights to send a Canadian representative to the Miss Universe® Pageant.

Kantapat Peerada-chainarin of Thailand won the title, Jeanine Castro (Fernando de Noronha) was 1st runner-up, Mariia Ovechkina (Belarus), finished in 3rd place, Miss China (North),  Wang Lu, was 4th, and Miss Tanzania, Nelly Almas, received the 5th position.

The semi-finalists were India (6th place), Canada (7th), Namibia (8th), Bolivia (9th) and Portugal (10th); and the quarter-finalists were Brazil (11th), Russia (12th), Sri Lanka (13th), Guadeloupe (14th), Vietnam (15th), Venezuela (16th), Australia (17th), South Africa (18th), Czech Republic (19th) and China (South) (20th).

The MIss Tourism Queen International pageant attracts full support from different circles in the society, and the special involvement of the press and TV media. With around 250 press’s coverage and over 50 TV media’s broadcasting, Miss Tourism Queen International serves as an international platform for the involved regions, business brand, tourist cities, tourist products, fashion and luxury goods.  Congratulations Ava!

The final competition took place on December 15, and Avery became the first Canadian to win the online voting award at an international competition!

The public could log onto the World Miss University website and vote once per day for a two-week period. It was an extremely close race but Canada came out on top with 17,495 votes.  China took second place with 17,050, and Russia was third with 13,418.

The new World Miss University is 18 year-old Siria Bojόrquez, a student at Texas Tech University, who represented the USA.

The World Miss University is a competition for university students, with focus on environmental and global issues, academic standing, public speaking and volunteer work.

The World Miss University is a competition for university students, with focus on environmental and global issues, academic standing, public speaking and volunteer work.

Ashley competed at Miss Universe Canada in 2010, placed in the top 20 and won the People’s Choice Award. Ashley is a fifth-year Bachelor of Administration student at Memorial University, is on the Dean’s List, and has received numerous scholarships.

Ashley’s national costume for this event was created by local designer Isabel Tavares, and was inspired with a maple leaf concept.

This 1.75 m beauty will join 24 other contestants from all over Latin America and the world in the quest of becoming the International Queen of Coffee 2012.
