Languages spoken Fluently (please include your native language if English is not your native language)
I speak English and Punjabi fluently. English was not my first language; I actually was more comfortable speaking Punjabi first, because my grandmother who only communicates with Punjabi, used to babysit me. I actually had to attend ESL classes until I was 9 years old.
What would be your “dream job” in life?
I would love to pursue modelling as a career. If I didn’t have other obligations, my dream job would be to walk down the runway as a Victoria’s Secret Angel. Realistically for me though, I find my passion lying in communications. I would also love to engage myself in the field of journalism in the future, and dream of being on television one day.
List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.
Something that people may find interesting about me is that I have had the job of helping design and build a house quite recently. I helped my dad quite often with labour-intensive tasks, which were both physically and mentally challenging. I did many jobs: from digging out window wells in the mud, to sorting out large, heavy piles of lumber, helping stabilize the frame of the house by reinforcing plywood and anchoring joists, all the way to laying down hardwood.
I also made many contributions to the interior/exterior design scheme, and played an integral part in designing the layout of the structure. Although difficult at times, I found this job to be very rewarding as I got to witness the fruits of my labour. What once started as a big, muddy hole in the ground, slowly transformed into a beautiful home. Knowing that I was contributing to a bigger picture, is what really motivated me to push myself, and persevere through it all.
Where is the most interesting place you have been?
I once had the privilege of travelling to Morocco on a school trip when I was 15. I would have to say that out of all of the amazing places I have been to; my short time in Morocco was by far the most interesting. I found it to be very vibrant, diverse, and full of culture.
There were many experiences I had in Morocco, which I have yet to see anywhere else. I got to ride a camel, shop in an open-air bazaar, go to a spice souk, eat delicious traditional Moroccan cuisine, and even bargain with locals in a carpet store. I look forward to travelling to Morocco again in the future, and highly recommend the experience to all.
What is your philosophy of/in life?
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
in any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go.
-Dr. Seuss
I believe that this quote translates my personal philosophy in life perfectly.
