Elyse was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario. She is currently a 3rd year student at Wilfrid Laurier University in Brantford Ontario, studying children’s education with the goal of becoming a primary school teacher.
Along with focusing on her studies, Elyse transitioned from a 3x National level ice dance competitor to coaching figure skating, and participating in shows.
Elyse is also a 4x World Martial Arts Champion and 2x Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee. Mayor Hazel McCallion of Mississauga, Mayor Rob Burton of Oakville, and Prime Minister Stephen Harper have recognized her achievements.
Upon attaining their 2nd degree black belts and the titles of Sensei, she and her brothers opened their own karate school- No Limits Martial Arts in September. As with her skating and karate, Elyse uses her Can-Fit-Pro FIS certification to enhance the lives and health of others through fitness classes and community events.
Through competing in skating and martial arts, Elyse has been able to travel to many different cities and countries where she has gained a deeper appreciation for other cultures and people.
She tries to instil a positive attitude in all of her students. Respect for others and themselves and confidence are attributes Elyse tries to teach through setting as positive an example as possible. Her personal motto reflects this: “Nobody can tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon.”
