Ashlen Toledo is currently enrolled at McMaster University and is studying in the Critical Studies and Cultural Theory program. Upon completion of her degree she plans on attending law school and pursuing a career in the animal law field. She is passionate about volunteering for animal rehabilitation centers as well as for programs that aid children in poverty. She believes that once you follow your passions, success will then follow you.
Her love for travel and cultures enabled her to visit Costa Rica and volunteer for the Proyecto Asis program. This program allowed her to live a simpler way of a life with a local family and volunteer at a wildlife rescue center. She immersed herself in the Costa Rican culture and learned to speak some Spanish as well as contributed to the local environment by reversing the damage done by deforestation through planting trees. She also aided wild animals by feeding them and repairing their homes.
Upon meeting Ashlen in person, you will instantly feel the enthusiastic, energetic, and blissful emotions she surrounds herself in. She has a genuine personality and is always willing to aid an individual in need. Ashlen is also strongly motivated to succeed in all aspects of her life and believes that one must strive to accomplish their dreams and go forward in life with a positive attitude. It is with this positivity that Ashlen feels one can change the outer aspects of their lives for the better.
Ashlen is a native born Canadian, but comes from a Portuguese and Brazilian background. With her degree in cultural studies, and her multi-cultural roots, she is able to understand and embrace cultural diversity. Therefore, she will be able to successfully represent Canada’s multicultural society using the knowledge and experience she has gained.
If Ashlen is chosen to be the next Miss Universe Canada, she will carry out her duties as a positive role model for individuals around the globe. She will help to reach out to people whom are struggling from poverty or illnesses through working with a plethora of charities. She will also mentor youth by educating them and raising public awareness on anti-bullying and anti-substance abuse. Moreover, she will help to end animal abuse through educating the public on this issue and fundraising for animal rehabilitation centers and rescue shelters. Ashlen is a firm believer of giving back to society, and has faith that the generosity that one extends to another will result in a life of peace.
