WHAT WOULD BE YOUR "DREAM
JOB" IN LIFE?
My dream job would be one that affected profound positive change
in society locally and globally as foreign affairs minister for
Canada. I imagine that this job would always be changing but whatever
I would be doing would be having a positive and influential impact
on society. I always want to be doing things I am passionate about,
and I love learning from new experiences, people and places.
NAME ONE PERSON, OTHER
THAN YOUR PARENTS, WHO HAS HAD THE MOST INFLUENCE ON YOUR LIFE?
WHY?
My best friend has definitely had the most influence on my
life because she is amazing and inspirational. Having strong friendship
means you have to work hard at a relationship and really learn
to respect and care for others and celebrate their differences
and unique talents. My best friend has always brought the best
out of my confidence, tolerance, creativity and patience and helped
me truly appreciate all I have.
WHAT IS THE PROUDEST PERSONAL
ACCOMPLISHMENT (OTHER THAN BEING IN THIS OR ANY OTHER BEAUTY PAGEANT
COMPETITION)
My proudest personal accomplishment is my hard work to get
to my current situation. I worked very hard throughout school
and in my extracurricular activities to be able to fulfill my
dreams of studying abroad and exploring new places. The fact that
I did everything I could and was able to make my dreams come true,
gives me continuing optimism and hope for the future.
WHAT IS YOUR CAREER AMBITION
AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING OR PLAN TO DO TO ACCOMPLISH THAT GOAL?
Later in my life, I would like to become the Foreign Affairs
Minister of Canada. I have always had a very fond interest in
politics, international relations, and Canadian foreign affairs
policy. I feel the job would integrate a lot of core skills I
possess with the vast international and political experience I
hope to have. I plan on completing my first university degree
in international business and will continue to travel as much
as possible in my life, learning something new everywhere I go.
DESCRIBE WHERE YOU WERE
RAISED AND WHAT YOUR CHILDHOOD WAS LIKE.
I was raised in a few different communities in Vancouver and I
consider my childhood to have been well-rounded. I followed my
older brother around a lot, doing a lot of exploring in the forests
and trying every new sport he did, like Karate, Snowboarding,
Rock-Climbing, and Baseball. I also tried a variety of other sports
and took ballet, modern dance and art classes. I grew up in very
family-oriented neighbourhoods with lots of children around and
went to an amazing private school for my elementary education.
I acquired the love of travelling at a young age visiting family
in different parts of Denmark, England, and Trinidad.
LIST ANY INTERESTING OR
UNUSUAL JOBS YOU MAY HAVE HAD.
When I worked as a hostess for a year at Joe Forte's, a fine-dining
restaurant, I had many responsibilities which kept my job complex
and interesting. In addition to being a guest services representative,
I did accounting and job training. I met so many different people
from around the world, and I enjoyed how different every day was.
There were always new people with interesting things to share,
and regular guests provided friendly, familiar faces. I got to
meet a lot of famous actors, athletes and well known business
people and work with a really great team in hospitality, which
was a fun, new and interesting experience.
LIST ANY VOLUNTEERING YOU HAVE DONE.
Currently, at university in England I am a PR Coordinator for
the International Study Center's Amnesty International Chapter
and I volunteer as a teacher's aide at a local preschool. Last
year, I worked with the operations team at Pivot Legal Society
on a weekly basis. I also volunteered at several different conferences
about global marketing, social justice and was a senior staff
member of Vancouver's Model United Nations Conference. I have
worked at the Heart and Stroke Foundation, at local soup kitchens,
and helping prepare meals for the Agape Street Missions. I have
also volunteered at my school for fashion shows, plays and musicals;
I have judged debating tournaments, directed the artwork for different
celebrations, and helped organize an international dinner.
WHERE IS THE MOST INTERESTING
PLACE YOU HAVE BEEN?
The most interesting place I have been recently is Vimy Ridge
in France this past November for Remembrance Day. Living in Europe,
I was lucky to attend and participate in the ceremony at this
great Canadian Memorial Site. Being on the spots of battle and
in between the trenches where so many soldiers had suffered was
a very moving and humbling experience. So was seeing survivors
of the battle and their families remembering those brave soldiers
who died so many years before for our freedom.
WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER CONTESTANTS?
I have a very unique background as both my parents are Danish
but I have a maternal grandmother from the Caribbean republic
of Trinidad and Tobago, and I was born in Amsterdam and raised
in Vancouver. I grew up with a single mom who worked so hard to
provide me with as many opportunities as possible. I know the
meaning of hard work, and I know what I want, and what success
requires. I have big dreams and goals and a diplomatic perspective
that is eager to learn and to experience new things. I have a
strong moral base but broad-minded points of view. If I were to
be selected as Miss Universe Canada, not only would I be an inspired
and active ambassador for Canada but also a well-rounded role
model for young people everywhere. I hope to achieve the title
and use the experience and opportunity as a grander platform to
help and support others to the best of my ability.
WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY
OF/IN LIFE?
My philosophy in life is simply to think positively. I think every
day you need to appreciate what you have before you complain about
something, and that anything you would like to have happen, can
happen. I think that by thinking from a grateful and positive
point of view, only good can come, and it is the first step in
working your way to fulfilling your dreams. I believe that everyone
creates their own life experience and that positive thinking will
eventually manifest itself into the life experiences of your dreams.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO BE
DOING IN 10 YEARS?
In 10 years, I hope to have done another year of exchange overseas
in my third year of university, graduated, and worked in Korea
or Japan teaching English to small children. I hope to have worked
in an upbeat and exciting job for a few years after, and gone
back to school to get my Masters in Business. By the time I am
28, I hope to be getting into a more important role in a job that
fits my passions for helping others and social change, something
that I feel at the time could be my career. I hope to be living
in a great apartment I own in a downtown or beachside area but
soon buying a more permanent house to live in. I hope to have
my own car and have started a new sport I would be enjoying as
well as be fluent in Spanish.
IS THERE ANYTHING
YOU WOULD LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF? SOMETHING UNIQUE THAT
HAS HAPPENED TO YOU? SOME INTERESTING THING ABOUT YOU?
As mentioned previously, I have participated in a lot of different
sports throughout my life. I have also travelled to many cities
within Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands,
France, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic,
and Croatia, as well as throughout Canada, the USA, England, Scotland,
and Ireland. I have been able to go on these trips with my family
or friends at my international school, through my hard work in
high school, and my acquisition of scholarships. I have also been
able to meet a lot of inspirational people at conferences, such
as Olympians and high-ranking government officials.
