years?
I have given money for the American foundation for children
with AIDS. This association has multiple goals including eradicating
extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education,
reducing child mortality, combating diseases like AIDS or malaria
and developing a global partnership for development. Donations
can help to provide high quality medication for children in Sub-Saharan
Africa.
What would be your "dream
job" in life?
Fashion journalist, covering fashion events and runway shows.
Name one person, other
than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life?
Why?
A person that influenced me positively through all my life
is my childhood best friend, Katherine. Since I knew her, I've
known I can always count on her. When we had little disagreements,
we have always reconciled and even if we are living far from each
other, it's always a pleasure for me to hear her voice and to
remind me of lasting memories. The most important thing in this
relationship is that I learned that a friendship can last a long
time despite all the fights and joys we went through and a long
distance relationship. I am assured that every time I see her,
we will have as much pleasure and laughs as the last time we have
seen each other. Friendship is a very important goodness for me
and with her I would say that my relationship is really what represents
for me a quality friendship.
What is the proudest personal
accomplishment (other than being in this or any other beauty pageant
competition)
My personal accomplishment that I am really proud of is moving
from my birth town Matane, to Quebec City to study in what I was
dreaming of since the age of 10 years old. I am proud to have
followed my dream and to have learnt to be independent in life.
Since I moved, my goal was to enjoy my new life as much as possible
and to learn new exciting things beside the fashion domain, be
it singing, music or sports. Even though my study field asks for
a lot of time and commitment, I succeed in all my courses, whether
they are interesting or not and I even find the time to participate
in fashion shows, as a model or organizer. Meeting new friends
and learning to live on my own helped me to get through difficulties.
The most important of my goals will be achieved this year, when
I will receive my college diploma for which I worked hard in the
past 3 years with success. Plus, I am very proud to have the chance
to participate in such a big event as the salon de la mode, my
final evaluation that is taking place in Laurier Quebec, where
my final collection will finally be on the runway to expose my
work of the recent years.
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan
to do to accomplish that goal?
I would like to have a career in the fashion world because
this is a real passion for me. I prefer theoretical to practical
field, so that is why I would like to pursue my studies in English
in journalism at university. To gain experience in this domain
will help me to create a network of contacts and to study in-depth
society's problems and phenomenon. I think that finishing my studies
in fashion design this year, and that having participated in different
kinds of internships will help me to understand more the fashion
industry and what it takes to realise a garment. I think that
combining such a general domain as journalism and a specialized
one as fashion is a winning equation. I love the artistic side
of this domain and to earn my life with it would be a blessing.
Describe where you were
raised and what your childhood was like.
I was born in a small town by the St-Lawrence River in Gaspésie,
which is called Matane. It has a population of 13,000. My strongest
childhood memories are those that I spent with my friends. I remember
my mother as the one who hosted everyone in my street. Friends
were happy to visit my sister and me because my mother was very
permissive and we had all the rights to use our creativity to
have the most fun. I also remember my strong relationship with
my sister because we were always together to find or invent a
new game so we were never bored. She was a model for me by her
uniqueness and her independence. Later, when I discovered my passion
for fashion, I never stopped thinking about my dream even thought
there was not that many fashion events in my hometown.
List any interesting or
unusual jobs you may have had.
My first job was as a dishwasher in a restaurant.
Younger, I was earning a little bit of money being Camelot for
a provincial newspaper.
These jobs were unusual because they were more physical and masculine
for a girl of that age.
List any volunteering you
have done.
Volunteer to take care of the mentally challenged of my primary
school.
Where is the most interesting
place you have been?
The most interesting place I have been is Clearwater Florida,
where I just come from. I had never see a palm tree, so for me,
it was like heaven on earth. This is not only the place, but also
what represented this trip for me. It was a way for me to decompress
and get rewarded for the hard work I have done in recent years.
Seeing the beautiful landscapes and enjoying the nice weather
in good company helped me take a rest from my responsibilities
and my obligations of this busy year.
What makes you unique and
different from the other contestants?
What makes me different is that I always try to push my limits
to be a better person, whether in my relationships or in my personal
development. I try to live the most interesting experiences to
gain maturity and accomplishments. I do not stop my thoughts to
what society dictates and I always try to go further to define
what makes me unique and different. Today, the consumer society
can have a negative influence on the thoughts or the health of
people and I think it is important to find a way to dispose of
this influence and to think differently. That is what I am trying
to do every day to be unique and to follow my own path.
What is your philosophy
of/in life?
My philosophy in life is to enjoy every moment of happiness that
awaits us and to always keep in mind that we only have one life
to live. We must always keep our dreams in mind to be alert to
be sure not to miss an opportunity to realize them. I think that
everything happens for a reason that is not what happens to you,
but more what you do with what happens to you. I think that seeing
the positive side of life in every situation is the key which
leads to a happy life. I also think that every person has unique
features and that you need to develop them to become qualities
to use them to your entourage and you own advantage.
What do you hope to be
doing in 10 years?
In 10 years, I hope that life offered me enough opportunities
to enable me to earn my living with a job I love and stimulates
me. I want to be surrounded by people who matter most to me. I
hope I would have lived the most enriching experiences as possible
and to have been able to influence people around me positively
and to have helped them feel better throughout my journey. I would
like to have visited different places on the globe and have been
able to discover different cultures for me to understand what
shapes our world. I hope I would have helped people around me
as best I could. I would like to have undying memories of my younger
years and to have the ambition to relive those ten years again.
Is there anything
you would like to tell us about yourself? Something unique that
has happened to you? Some interesting thing about you?
Last year, I suffered from mental depression and I believe that
it did not happen for any reason. Getting out of a depression
really helps to make major changes in your life and to realize
that seeing the wrong side of a situation is pointless for you
and your entourage. Passing through a depression can really make
you become stronger to face life's difficulties. When you are
finished with negative thoughts, you realize that life is too
short not to enjoy the most of it and this is when you decide
to do everything that is in your power to achieve your goals.
This experience helped me gain in maturity and understand more
what millions of Canadians live through at least once in their
life. Most of all, this experience convinced me that I didn't
want to pass through it again and forced me to change my way of
thinking.
