What would be your "dream job" in life?
My dream job is to travel the
oceans on a boat while writing wonderful stories for all to experience.
On another note I have always wanted my own cooking show!
Name one person, other
than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life?
Why?
My little sister Victoria makes
my life so amazing and worthwhile. Being an only child for 17
years was fun but when my parents had Victoria, everything changed.
I see how much she loves and looks up to her big sister and it
brings tears to my eyes sometimes. She is definitely a major positive
influence in my life and she holds my strength to make positive
decisions. I believe that wanting to be a positive role model
for her has helped me become who I am today and my dream would
be to share that with young women all over the world.
What is the proudest personal
accomplishment (other than being in this or any other beauty pageant
competition)
My proudest personal accomplishment
is finding myself, and my true passions within. I know that sometimes
people get lost with outside influences and they do not get to
truly live life for themselves. life is a long mission for everyone
and through experience I now know how I want to live mine. I have
learned that accomplishments and success do not come easy and
being a good person is what counts. I learn something new about
myself every day, and every day I grow to what I aspire to be,
a positive role model for generations to come.
What is your career ambition
and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I hope to one-day run a communications
Firm dealing with all aspects of Public Relations. I hope to contract
out my services as a consultant to various industries. In the
most ideal situation I would like to bridge my Real Estate services
with my communications endeavour but have yet to come up with
a plan for that. Until the time is right to begin my entrepreneurship,
I have a goal to volunteer my time to organizations needing services
that I am trained in, and acquiring as much knowledge and experience
as I can.
My education has set me on the right path as so has listening
to other professionals in my field. learning is key.
Describe where you were
raised and what your childhood was like.
I was born in Rzeszow, a small
city in Poland. My childhood was amazing especially with the type
of caring, family orientated environment I lived in. The hospitable
nature of Polish people, and their true desire to help is definitely
embodied in me since that is what I experienced as a child. Let
us not forget my palette, which has found a true love for all
worldly foods; I can thank my mother's Polish home cooking for
that!
My parents and I left Poland
in 1986 and moved to Germany for about a year before transitioning
to Toronto, Canada. I can easily say that times back then were
tough for a young family like mine. Language was a huge barrier
and it took a long time for us to build ourselves up emotionally
and financially. One thing I have learned from my parents is not
to give up and great things will come to those who believe. their
love through the good times and bad has had an exceptional effect
on how much I care about others and how much I would like to help
those in similar situations as mine.
My parents always wanted me to have everything I wanted and worked
very hard for me to be able to experience different activities.
Being an only child for so long taught me independence and surprisingly
gave me the social skills to build great friendships; without
the help of a sibling, I had to look for friends and talk to kids
on my own building my self esteem. I believe this gave me the
confidence I have today.
In junior high we moved to
Calgary and been here since. I went to high school here and now
University. There are many important people in my life and I would
like to thank everyone for being there for me when I need you
most.
List any interesting or
unusual jobs you may have had.
In high school, I did some promotional
work for TIDE! Yes, the detergent. I had to lug around three huge
Styrofoam sculptures that resembled snowy, iced mountains and
go to department stores to promote the product. It was fun but
sometimes the stores would be slow and no one would talk to me.
Setting up the display was the highlight in those cases but in
those days it was my job and I still believe I did it well!
List any volunteering you
have done.
I have volunteered a lot through U of C community service learning
programs. This year my semester project involved the Fort Calgary
Interpretative Centre, which promotes the history of Calgary through
archives and educational programs. My team has been working on
research to help classify the various archives that are kept in
the museum. Now that school is done, I hope to continue to volunteer
there.
Last year I volunteered for
the Juno awards in Calgary, which was an amazing experience.
Where is the most interesting
place you have been?
Being from Europe I have travelled
to many countries and have experienced many different cultures
this way. What is interesting to me is the ability for people
to find their own little niche within Canada. I would have to
say that since living in Toronto and Calgary for most my childhood
I have been able to see cultures grow, within the grand multi-culture
of Canada. For this reason, I appreciate what our country has
to offer. The niches I speak of are Chinatowns, and little Italy's
of course. They are by far the most interesting places! In Toronto,
my family lived off Rocesvalles ave, a strictly Polish community.
Polish stores, schools and churches lined the streets along with
Canadian of course.
Another place I have visited
that I must mention is Krakow, Poland. Krakow is an old city rich
with historical events. It was once home to Kings and castles
and is a very big part of my Polish history.
What makes you unique and
different from the other contestants?
I cannot say that I know the
other girls personally, but I know enough about myself to say
that I truly value experience, and this experience I am blessed
to be a part of, competing for Miss Universe Canada, tops the
list. I am unique in that I find positivity in everything. I know
that people make mistakes and there is no sense giving up. On
that note, I do not allow for awkward, silent moments. Instead
I make them comfortable!
What is your philosophy
of/in life?
My philosophy on life is to live
it to the fullest. I follow my "live, love, laugh" motto
well, and I believe others should too.
What do you hope to be
doing in 10 years?
In 10 years, I hope to have a successful
career running my company. I also hope to have a family by then,
including children of course.
Is there anything you would
like to tell us about yourself? Something unique that has happened
to you? Some interesting thing about you?
I am fast at everything I do
and am learning to slow it down. My eagerness tends to get the
best of me. Whether it is speaking, walking, or living my life,
my goal is to do it all a little bit slower.
