Kara-Jean Otuomagie was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta and embraces her multicultural Nigerian-British-Irish heritage and is proud to be Canadian.

At the age of 24, she has completed her Bachelor of Science degree and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Chiropractic professional designation in Toronto, Ontario. With definitive goals in opening her own health and wellness center, Kara looks forward to providing a means of preventative health care to the people in her community.

In her spare time, Kara enjoys swimming, playing basketball, and reading. She has studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music Canada, receiving First Class Honours and teaches piano to anyone that is willing to learn. Kara enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as she believes that along with determination, drive and goal setting, family and friends are the backbone to achievements and success.

Yes, i currently work for td bank financial group as a financial representative.

attended the university of alberta, in edmonton alberta and completed a bachelor of science in biological sciences degree.
i have also attended the universite de montreal as part of the explore student exchange program learning french as a second language.

am a water safety instructor trainer with red cross and hold my national lifeguard service certificate with the lifesaving society.

I have had classical pinao training and have achieved first class honors with the royal conservatory of music in grade 8 piano.


In what sports, if any, have you participated and how long have you participated in each sport?
I played varsity basketball and received most valuable player as captain of my high school varsity team. i have also coached junior high school girls basketball and continue to play basketball recreationally orgainzing intramurals and tournaments at school.

I also have swam competatively since i was a child and teach and coach swimming lessons to children. i continue to swim recreationally and enjoy coaching summer camps.

What charity/charities have you supported with your time and/or resources over past two years?
I have supported the bissel center for the homeless, a charity in my hometown, edmonton, alberta. this event was to raise awareness and donate to the bissel centre for the homeless titled 'house for humanity' raising $1, 800.

Also, i have supported and fundraised for the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) society, particularly as my friend suffers from multiple sclerosis, raising over $24,000 for "Team Julia".


What would be your "dream job" in life?

y dream job in life is to travel around the world and volunteer for relief efforts as a chiropractor. I have always wanted to travel, and i think that this would be the best way to meet a country's people and give back with the knowledge that i have gained regarding health and wellness.


N ame one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life? Why?

One person, that has the most influence on my life is my younger sister. i have been able to watch her grow up from birth to present and she is inspiring for me to become a role model and give her a positive image to look up to.


What is the proudest personal accomplishment (other than being in this or any other beauty pageant competition)

y proudest personal accomplishment is realizing the power that is within me to be able to achieve anything once i put my mind to it.


What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

My career ambition is to become a chiropractor and have my own health and wellness center. curently, to achieve this goal i am attending chiropractic college and shadowing successful chiropractors in the field.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was raised in edmonton, alberta as the eldest of three girls and as the story goes, was deemed to set the example for my yonger sisters. my parents raised me to learn the value of working hard for something and enjoying what you do at the same time. I found that with this instilled in me, i wanted to try, learn and do everything. From ice skating, ballet, soccer, basketball, piano, swimming i found myself trying new things, making new friends and constantly meeting new people. I was shy as a child, but my ability to join interest groups in school and participate in extra cirricular activities enabled me to become the outgoing person that i am today.


List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

One of the most interesting jobs that i have had in my life was a swimming instructor for the alberta school for the deaf. to learn to communicate with the actions of my body was challenging and required a lot of patience both for the children and myself. it was definitely a memorable experience as i ended up learning just as much as the students learned during the time that i had taught them.


List any volunteering you have done:

Friends volunteer at Stollery Childrens Hospital, Wisest Volunteer University of Alberta, University of Alberta Orientation, Junior High School Girls basketball coaching, Grandview capital care seniors residence.


Where is the most interesting place you have been?
One of the most interesting places that i have been is Montreal, Quebec. travelling in Quebec is an amazing experience because it feels as though a small piece of france is right in the middle of Canada. I enjoyed taking in the culture of French - Canadians and learning about the customs and traditions of the people living there. I also enjoyed learning the French language, so now i can take a little bit of Montreal with me wherever I go.

What makes you unique and different from the other contestants?
The uniqueness in me is my genuity, a noticeable realness.


What is your philosophy of/in life?

y philosophy in life is to be comfortable with you are both inside and out and project your confidence with a humbleness that is displayed with kindess towards others.


What do you hope to be doing in 10 years?

I
n 10 years time, i hope to be thriving as a chiropractor with a health and wellness centre and enjoying the company of the family that i aspire to have.


Is there anything you would like to tell us about yourself? Something unique that has happened to you? Some interesting thing about you?

I
f chosen for miss universe canada, my goal would be to raise awareness in the increasing amount of impoverished youth. being both a positive role model, and drawing attention to the need for increased access to education, programs and health care would be of my utmost concern.
