Kaley is of Norwegian decent and grew up in a small town in Alberta and highly values education and family. The experience from obtaining her degree, working in an acute environment and traveling has shown her that anyone can achieve their goals.

Kaley enjoys learning and is determined to further her career. Becoming a Nurse Practitioner or physician will help her purse her goals of incorporating alternative, naturopathic and cultural therapies into conventional healthcare practices. Kaley loves laughing, meeting new diverse people, working with and learning from her patients. She is an avid volunteer for an animal rescue, the Breast Cancer Society, the WWF and a scholar's council. Kaley has recently co-founded a non-profit group with a mission to increase awareness of local fashion designers, photographers, models and other artists. This group focuses on planning events around the city and has hosted three successful events so far. She enjoys volunteering and has currently modeled in fundraisers for the Amalaki relief fund, the MS Society and the Sunshine Foundation for kids.

In the next few months, Kaley is planning to work with the educational program developed by her Trauma unit called "The Party Program" which helps prevent youth from drinking and driving. She would like to eventually develop her own program which focuses on the prevention of gang violence. Kaley's interests include traveling, sports, modeling, health care and her family. She enjoys spending time laughing with her friends, working out at the gym and exploring the outdoors. She excels at snowboarding, dancing and event planning. Kaley's short term goals include learning more Spanish, stepping into a leadership role in her career, empowering youth around her and fostering a world for positive change.

What would be your "dream job" in life?
World traveller, professional student or stand up comedian.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life? Why?
I had a biology teacher in grade 12 named Mr. White who changed my life. Grade 12 is such an important time in a young person's life and he made a significant impression on me. Even though I was unaware of it at the time, his teachings initiated my curiosity in biology which in turn affected my career choice. He was very inspiring and supportive to his students and He showed me that I was capable of anything if I wanted it. He motivated me to find my passion for helping people, teaching and my interest in human biology. Thus, he had such an influence on me I decided to enter into nursing. Now, I absolutely love my career, I would like to continue in Health care for the rest of my life. Because of his influence and passion for teaching I could not imagine doing anything else.

What is the proudest personal accomplishment (other than being in this or any other beauty pageant competition)

My proudest person accomplishment was obtaining my degree with distinction dean's honours standings. I just recently purchase my first house. Prior to my degree, I went traveling to the other side of the world with only a backpack.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

I currently specialize in Trauma and will be doing emergency nursing when I have completed my courses in advanced trauma life support. I would like to work with the youth and educate them on the affects of gang violence in the hopes of prevention. Working on the "stars" emergency helicopter has always been a dream of mine I would love to obtain. I plan on attending graduate school to achieve a masters degree in nursing and begin my nurse practitioner clinical experience. I am on my way to obtaining these goals by enhancing my nursing skills by attending advancement courses offered through the Alberta Health services. I would like my career to eventually lead to introducing and possibly incorporating alternative, cultural practices into conventional medicine. I would be able to reach this goal by traveling the world, learning from diverse cultures, conducting research and opening my own practice one day.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was raised in a small town just outside of Calgary. I also spent a lot of time on my god parents farm with my only brother Reed. I grew up with a very supportive family that vastly influenced my core values of education, family and open mindedness. We did everything together including a lot of travel. We have travelled in a westvalia van to Alaska, gone biking on the Victoria islands and travelled all over the country and to Mexico. My dad has always been my hero and taught me to be independent. He always was there to listen and give me advice and taught me how to change my oil in my car. Both my parents believe in me and support all my efforts in school, band and dance. They encouraged me to use my talents and I became my student body president in high school and planned multiple events, charities and fundraisers. They gave me the opportunity to enjoy any sports I wanted to like skiing, water sports, golfing and a lot of dance which I am truly grateful of. They encourage me to travel after school and supported my interested in nursing as my mother was an LPN. My mother has been the voice behind my goal to work with alternative therapies as she currently practices massage, aromatherapy and reki. My brother has also been a very influential person in my life and has always been there for me. My childhood was a wonderful time filled with learning, experiences and a lot of laughing.
