What would be your "dream job" in life?
I don’t think a dream job is something that can be defined in a single word, as it encompasses many aspects of one’s work, life and personality. I think an ideal “dream job” is one that is rewarding, holds true to your personal values and beliefs, lets you be creative, utilizes your skills to the full potential, and of course makes you happy.
Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life? Why?
I would say that one of the most influential people in my life has unfortunately passed away. She was my piano teacher when I was 7 – Mrs. Nicholson. She taught me patience, dedication and the reward of hard work. She taught me that perseverance and persistence will always help you come out on top of life. These lessons were instilled in me at a young age and will continue to help in years to come.
What is the proudest personal accomplishment (other than being in this or any other beauty pageant competition)
My proudest personal accomplishment was a few years ago. I was in a public speaking competition where you were asked to write a speech on optimism in your life. I went through several preliminary competitions where I placed First for B.C., and then moved on to compete for the last competition in Idaho, USA. Even though I placed Second in the final, it was a wonderful moment to see how far one competition can take you, and what it can teach you about your life as well.
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I have always entertained two career goals in my head, the first being that I would love to have my own restaurant and lounge one day. I think the hospitality industry is vast expanding right now, and is incredibly exciting. I learn new things every day, when I manage my current restaurant and hope to learn even more in the future. My second career goal is to become a Broadcasting Journalist on TV. I hope to accomplish this goal relatively soon by enrolling in Broadcasting School next January.
Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I grew up in several different areas of North Vancouver, British Columbia. We moved quite a lot and I changed schools fairly often – my mom is a Real Estate Agent. I have a very supportive family-a wonderful mother, and two beautiful brothers. My mom gave my every opportunity to pursue any goal or dream that I wanted when I was younger from figure skating to singing lessons. I was very lucky and still am.
List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.
I think the most interesting job I have ever done was being a model in a life size fish tank for a lounge. It had a one way mirror so that I couldn’t actually see out but everyone could see me. It was definitely unusual!
List any volunteering you have done.
I have helped with several Lions Gate Hospital fundraisers; I used to be actively involved in the D.A.R.E. programs at various elementary schools in North Vancouver. I have volunteered for many club and lounge charity events in support of breast cancer research and MS in Vancouver.
Where is the most interesting place you have been?
The most interesting place I have had the opportunity to see was actually this past July. I went to the Mayan ruins in Mexico. The area is one of the best preserved costal ruin sites around the world. They are absolutely breathtaking, and beautiful. Beside them is Tulum Beach, which is another wonder in itself. The beach is so pretty with soft white sand, aqua blue water and horizon that can’t be beat.
What makes you unique and different from the other contestants?
All of the contestants in this competition are beautiful, intelligent young woman but just as no two snowflakes are alike, we are all unique and different from each other. I am a vibrant, diverse, ever growing, and ever learning individual.
What is your philosophy of/in life?
I think this quote best describes my philosophy of life “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your inner voice. Most important have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
What do you hope to be doing in 10 years?
Within the next ten years I hope to have finished school – I hope to have a passionate and rewarding career – I hope to be married to a strong and sincere man – and lastly I hope to have been blessed with the joy and gift of motherhood.
