What would be your "dream job" in life?
A working actor
Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life? Why?
Gail. She taught me more in a single semester than I learned in my first three years at University. When I first met her I cowered away but once I was ready Gail was able to greatly influence the woman that I am today. She inspired me to embrace myself for what I am and have rather than to wish for the gifts of others. My strengths surfaced through all the work we did together and I can only imagine how much more there is in store for me. Gail helped me to bring laughter out of pain and pushed me to grow beyond what I could have thought possible. She is the embodiment of everything I can only dream of becoming and I am lucky to know her.
What is the proudest personal accomplishment (other than being in this or any other beauty pageant competition)?
My proudest accomplishments occur when I perform. Those unexplainable and indescribable moments of being truthful to the point I feel fearful – those are the moments when I am not being false but I am willingly exposing that which I may not have the courage to express on a daily basis.
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
To be an actor on stage and possibly film. After graduation it has been a rough road but I watch for auditions and any opportunities that become available to me. I practice discipline in order to continue growing, I support other emerging artists and above all I am driven by my passion to bring change by challenging social apathy.
Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was born and raised in Calgary Alberta where the roads are salted during the winter. I was the youngest of three and was fortunate enough to participate in activities such as rhythmic gymnastics, figure skating, piano lessons and baseball. It wasn’t until eighth grade that I found what I was looking for in voice lessons which catered to my love of performing as well as taught me a great deal about discipline and devotion. My memories of childhood are extremely positive whether it is about long road trips to visit the Grandparents in Manitoba, our first trip to Disney World, or little things like laughing at the pictures from my first birthday where I didn’t understand how my hands could possibly help me eat a cupcake.
List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.
I am currently a Standardized Patient at the University of Calgary where I am an educational resource for medical students. I cooperate for physical examinations as well as role play different scenarios so that they may practice their skills in a safe environment.
List any volunteering you have done.
My largest volunteering commitment was co-directing a children’s choir of over ninety children for a number of years.
Face Painted for events such as “The World’s Largest First Aid Class” in Lethbridge
Where is the most interesting place you have been?
San Ildelfonso, Queretaro, Mexico. I haven’t been there since grade 11 and still I remember the vibrancy, the gentleness and the devotion of the Otomi people. I remember one of the leaders telling us that their word for “West” was the same word they used for “Forget” and “Forgive”; I thought it was beautiful that when the sun sets, so to do our mistakes; everyone has the chance to start fresh in the morning.
What makes you unique and different from the other contestants?
It is impossible for me to answer at this point. I see myself entering this competition as an inexperienced party with almost no modeling experience and absolutely no pageant experience. I have only met a handful of the contestants thus far and it seems to me we are all gracious and intelligent women seeking the same thing: to make an impact.
What is your philosophy of/in life?
I believe that in order to survive each day I must be positive and open minded. If I deny opportunities or ignore possibilities I will not challenge myself to continue learning about the world and about myself. I recognize myself as my life’s work and I must always be prepared to grow and develop.
What do you hope to be doing in 10 years?
In ten years I hope to be participating in a great deal of street theatre, small scale but very effective.
Is there anything you would like to tell us about yourself? Something unique that has happened to you? Some interesting thing about you?
I am a Karaoke addict!
