MAIN EVENTS AT THE WINTER GARDEN THEATRE

Fifty nine delegates from across Canada competed for the title of Miss Universe® Canada 2008 awarded on Monday April 28th 2008.

Riyo Mori, Miss Universe® 2007 from Japan, was special guest at the Final Event and one of the selected members of the Panel of Judges. Natalie Glebova, Miss Universe® Canada 2005 and Miss Universe® 2005 was also a judge for the Preliminary Competition and the Co-Host for the Final Show.

The contestants arrived in Toronto on Friday April 18th and Saturday April 19th, to kick off the pageant activities and spend time getting to know each other, rehearsing for the show, and visiting Toronto and the surrounding area.

The pageant consisted of two separate audience attended events:

*Pageant Presentation Show (Saturday, April 26th 2008)

All 59 delegates from across Canada competed before a live audience and a judges panel in the traditional categories (Swimwear and Evening Gown) for the chance to be selected as one of the top 15 semi-finalists. (5 Additional award winners were announced and they joined the top 15 on the Final night to make it a top 20).

*Pageant Finals Show (Monday, April 28, 2008)

The top 20 semi-finalists selected from Saturday's Pageant Presentation Show competed for the title of Miss Universe® Canada 2008 in front of the same judging panel as well as our live audience in the traditional categories (Swimwear and Evening Gown), plus the addition of a live interview/question and answer segment. However, all 59 delegates were involved in production numbers throughout the show.

'Finals Show:

-Rick Campanelli

Already one of Canada's most popular TV personalities when he began with ET Canada in September 2005, Rick Campanelli's on-air career started after winning the 1994 MuchMusic Temp contest. His easygoing, up-front style quickly made him a favourite of TV viewers from coast-to-coast.

From his flying leap off a jagged cliff with Sean Paul, to his dive out of an airplane with the Foo Fighters, to the pounding he took from pro wrestler, Cain, his willingness to go the distance speaks volumes about his work ethic and dedication.

-Dominique Dufour
