Languages spoken Fluently (please include
your native language if English is not your native language)
My native language is Spanish. I also speak English
and French
List any special training you have had
(music, art, drama, dance, etc).
I danced for 8 years, experimenting in hip-hop, jazz,
lyrical, and salsa.
I also took art class in high school.
What charity/charities have you supported
with your time and/or resources over past two years?
I have been out of the country for the past year,
(modelling overseas) on and off, and recently, when I
got back, I contacted the Pregnancy Centre to help out
with their Christmas event. I hope to be able to keep
volunteering with them.
What would be your "dream job"
in life?
My dream job would be a job that I love. A job that gives
me the opportunity to travel, room to grow, and that challenges
me every single day.
Name one person, other than your parents,
who has had the most influence on your life? Why?
I have had a lot of people influence me in very positive
ways throughout my life but the person, other than my
parents of course, who has helped me find out a lot about
myself has been my boyfriend. In the past year I have
begun to really find myself and get to know who I really
am. My boyfriend has helped me open my eyes to a lot of
important things I didn't even know existed. The way he
is compassionate and giving has shown me how I can be
a better person and how much more I can give to the people
I meet everyday.
What is the proudest personal accomplishment
(other than being in this or any other beauty pageant
competition)?
I have always been afraid of heights and of swimming in
oceans and lakes. A few months ago I got the opportunity
to face my fears. When I was traveling in Thailand I went
rock climbing and snorkelling. It was such an amazing
experience. I was able to face my fears, but it was more
than that. I learned a lot about myself and what I was
able to accomplish in life no matter how frightful or
difficult it may seem.
What is your career ambition and what
are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I have many things I feel I want to do as a career.
One of them is in the fitness area. Children obesity is
a growing problem in Canada and I want to be part of the
solution. Right now I'm taking my fitness theory course,
which is the first step in getting my personal training
diploma. Nutrition is a big part of being fit and staying
healthy so as soon as I'm done the personal training diploma
I plan to take some courses to familiarize myself with
that area.
Cooking is something I just found out I was interested
in. So right now I'm experimenting in my kitchen. This
is a great compliment for a health and fitness career.
The last thing is fashion design. I haven't started school
for this yet but I plan to do so in the next couple of
years.
Describe where you were raised and what
your childhood was like.
I was born in Colombia and moved to Canada when I was
5 years old. I was raised in Langley BC and I grew up
with my mom, dad, and two brothers. Even though the only
other family I had here was my aunt, uncle and two cousins,
I was always really family oriented. The Colombian culture
influenced my life very much while I was growing up and
it has made up a lot of the person I am.
List any interesting or unusual jobs
you may have had.
One of the things I've been doing for the last year
is modeling around Asia. There I had to do a lot of cheesy
and silly auditions for commercials. I remember one where
I had to run through a forest and jump over rocks while
drinking a cup of coffee. It was definitely very interesting
and of course a lot of fun.
List any volunteering you have done.
I love kids so most of my volunteering has revolved
around them. I volunteered at a day camp at my church
for a couple of summers. The following summer I decided
to volunteer at the YMCA camp. All through the years I
have volunteered on and off at the daycare at my church.
Where is the most interesting place you
have been?
The most interesting place that I have been to is
Thailand. I lived there for almost 5 months so I was able
to see more than the touristy locations. I was able to
live like local people live. Thailand has some of the
friendliest people I have ever met and, of course, some
of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen.
What makes you unique and different from
the other contestants?
I think what makes me different from many other contestants
is that I have had the opportunity to see many cultures
around the world. I have had the chance to see first hand
how lucky we are to live in Canada which has unlimited
opportunities for everyone.
What is your philosophy of/in life?
I believe that life is a great gift I've been given
and I should take all of its challenges and make then
into constructive experiences. I can't always control
what comes my way but I can always choose how I decide
to deal with it. I am responsible for my own life.
What do you hope to be doing in 10 years?
In 10 years I hope to have a husband and have started
on a family. I hope to still have the chance to travel
often. I picture myself growing in my career and helping
the people around me.
Is there anything you would like to tell
us about yourself? Something unique that has happened
to you? Some interesting thing about you?
I am the type of person who likes to experience and try
new things. During the last year I have been blessed with
the opportunity to travel and see things that I had never
even dreamed about. All of the things i have been through,
whether they were good or bad, easy or challenging have
made me grow into the person I am now. I have been able
to see how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful country.
