What would be your "dream job"
in life?
Medicine, reconstructive surgeon
Name one person, other than your parents,
who has had the most influence on your life? Why?
I was most influenced by a 23 years old patient suffering
from brain cancer. I had the privilege to spend time with
while volunteering in a Quebec hospital. I was impressed
by his admirable courage facing sickness and death. He
made me realize how strong people can be when caught in
difficult situations. Also, he inspired me to be stronger
regarding life's personal issues and more generous with
individuals who need material help or just a little of
human presence.
Finally, meeting him has confirmed that,
even tough the medical profession is very demanding both
physically and psychologically, being a doctor and having
the privileged possibility of helping others as a career
was really what I wanted to achieve in my life.
What is the proudest personal accomplishment
(other than being in this or any other beauty pageant
competition)
Overcome certain personal difficulties while being
a teenage girl has allowed me to become a confident and
determined woman, and without these assets I would probably
not have made it to medical school, which is undeniably
my proudest accomplishment.
What is your career ambition and what
are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
My ambition is to become a reconstructive plastic
surgeon in order to help other people with serious physical
pathologies to have a normal and fully satisfying life.
To become a medical specialist, I will have to work really
hard on my studies and totally dedicate myself to my practice
during my future internships.
Describe where you were raised and what
your childhood was like.
I was raised as an only child in a quiet and typical
suburb of Quebec. Also, I had the chance to grow in a
very caring and loving family, which has had an important
effect on what I have become as a woman. Besides, my childhood
in primary school has been a little awkward.
In every
school, there is a kid that performs very well in class
and that has kind of a funny look with glasses, braces,
weird clothes and big eyebrows. Actually, I was that kid.
It made interactions with the other kids a little more
difficult and it influenced the image I had of myself
for a lot of years, but today when I think back about
this period of my life, I do it with a smile because I
am pleased with what I have become and I am proud of this
"geeky" side that still resides in my personality.
List any interesting or unusual jobs
you may have had.
Not yet, it does not apply, but I hope that in the
future it will!
List any volunteering you have done.
I have spent time talking or organizing activities with
long term care patients (gerontology, Psychiatry, oncology)
in Quebec hospital's Cité de la Santé.
I served meals to homeless women for le Chaînon
shelter.
I have worked in the administration and the organization
of charity events for the Children Wish Foundation
I have volunteer during the Canadian Cancer Society Walk
for Life in Montreal.
Where is the most interesting place you
have been?
Paris, France, for the wealth of the cultural history,
art and literature.
What makes you unique and different from
the other contestants?
I think that I am really one of a kind! Actually,
people often say that I have a special and unique personality,
in a positive way I supposed, but they are never able
to point out exactly why. Besides, I could say that, despite
the graceful image I am usually trying to convey, I am
at times very goofy. Also, I have a very developed sense
of humor; I laugh all the time, which totally includes
laughing of myself.
What is your philosophy of/in life?
My philosophy is to use life's experience, both positive
and negative, to grow into a better human being by learning
from those and, also, to help other dealing with similar
issues.
What do you hope to be doing in 10 years?
First, I hope that I will have finished my medical
studies! More seriously, I hope to be working in a Canadian
hospital as a reconstructive surgeon. Also, I hope that
by ten years from now I will have find the right men for
me and, maybe, having a little family too. Finally, I
hope that my medical practice will allow me to bring help
to international associations who take care of highly
disadvantaged communities in our world.
Is there anything you would like to tell
us about yourself? Something unique that has happened
to you? Some interesting thing about you?
I would like to say that I am truly pleased to be a part
of the 2008 Miss Universe Canada pageant. When I was younger,
I used to struggle with my self-image as a woman, but
I overcame these issues by developing the different assets
of my personality and by learning to accept, maybe even
to like, my flaws as an integrant part of who I am.
Through
my participation in the contest, I hope that my experience
could help other young girls who feel insecurity toward
their self-image to be as proud of themselves as they
should and to feel totally beautiful; it would be an amazing
honor for me to be that positive role model they could
look up to. Finally, this contest is for me an incredible
opportunity to celebrate femininity, to celebrate being
accomplished physically and mentally as a women and, most
important, to celebrate the beauty of every women in Canada.
