Lia is a 2nd year student at York University, attending its French campus (College Glendon) where she studies Political Science and languages. She is also pursuing a Spanish-English translation degree, which she hopes to complete in the next 2 years. She speaks English, Spanish, and French and is currently studying Italian.
She was born in Canada, but her parents are from Uruguay, whom both come from mixed backgrounds. Lia also visited Uruguay numerous times, and attended school there for over a year. After living there, she decided that helping underprivileged children is something that she would like to get involved in. She truly realized how good one has life while living in Canada and how difficult it is for people, especially children, in developing countries.
Culture is something that Lia values very much and she is very proud of hers. She hopes to make use of a summer by traveling abroad and teaching English as a foreign language to children. Her ideal career would consist of working on an international level, such as being an ambassador or a consular, utilizing the languages that she has learned. She enjoys international music and cuisine; anything from Greek or Persian to Spanish and Italian. She enjoys Latin dancing, playing soccer and hopes that the World Cup will one day be brought to Canada.
If Lia were to obtain the Miss Universe Canada title, she would like to create massive awareness to young Canadians about bullying and violence because she believes that those are major problems that our younger generation faces. Also, working to help students financially would be a goal she would like to work towards, because education Is one of the most important things that one can acquire. She believes that in having enough resources and a greater voice, it would help to make others more aware of the major problems our society has.
