What would be your "dream job" in life?
My dream job is to become a stong canadian actor and play roles that not only affect people, but make them think as well. i want to become an advocate for women in canadian film and impact the projects and films that come to canada.
Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life? Why?
My grandfather has always been my inspiration. he is a pioneer in the canadian film industry, and built his production company from the ground up.. he has always supported me in my dreams and has been my source of great advice. He taught me that a combination of determination and hard work is what it takes to succeed.
What is the proudest personal accomplishment (other than being in this or any other beauty pageant competition)
My proudest personal accomplishment was moving on my own to Vancouver to pursue my dreams. I lived at home all my life and then one day packed up my car and drove out west. I was immediately shocked at how expensive and scary life on ones own was, but I managed! I knew no one in Vancouver, and I dearly missed my family, but I stuck with it and focused on what I really wanted. I am proud of the fact that I did not give up, though many times I wanted to, and I maintained sight of my goals. I beleved in myself, and consequently others did too!
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
My ambition is to continue my acting and to further my career while remaining in Canada. It is often assumed that actors must move to America to work consistently, but i am a strong supporter of Canadian film. I am proud to be Canadian, and hope to promote and be a part of Canadian films.
Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was born and raised a priarie girl in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I had an extremely happy childhood, full of activities like dance and choir. These were often shared with my sister, who is also my best friend. I attended a small, family like school throughout junior high which instilled in me the value of friends and family. My grandparents played a strong role in my childhood, and I credit my grandfather with leading me to the field of performing arts.
I was always performing, and my family was always there watching a cheering me on. I guess you could say that I had the perfect childhood, and thank God for all my blessings!
List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.
I worked as a bridal consultant, fitting gowns, and I have to say that brides are extremely entertaining! So much emotion goes on during a wedding, and they would let it all out on me...sometimes I felt like a therapist! I also modelled on an infomercial for a hair removal system for women’s facial hair! haha! My sister still teases me about that!
List any volunteering you have done.
-Volunteer host and model for FMA vancouver, BC SPCA
-Manitoba wildlife rescue association, VOLUNTEER
-Vancouver Food Bank, donating and sorting food
-Model for BC Children’s Hospital fundraisers
Where is the most interesting place you have been?
Definitely Morocco! I got to ride a camel on the beach! The people and culture are so amazing. To have the opportunity to visit as a Canadian woman, and to see the cultural differences with women’s rights and feminism was so inspiring.
What makes you unique and different from the other contestants?
I believe that each contestant has her own unique qualities and stories, and that is why I love the Miss Universes Canada pageant! It is not just about beauty, they are looking for the whole package. They are also looking for a role model for the women of Canada. I feel that I am a true “prairie girl” and an all around Canadian woman. I have a variety of interests and I love to meet new people, travel and gain new experiences. I am true to my friends and family, and am there for anyone who needs me.
If I were blessed with the opportunity to become Miss Universe Canada 2007, I would do my best to be a strong role model and make my country proud! It would be a dream come true!
What is your philosophy of/in life?
A friend once gave me a charm that said “Live, Love, Laugh”, and that has become my philosophy. I believe that you must “Live” your life however makes you happy and proud. . I believe that you must always “Love”, whether it is a partner, friend, family or a stranger. By loving someone and treating them with love, you will always find happiness. Last I believe you must always “Laugh”! Laughter makes a bad day brighter and the heart lighter!
What do you hope to be doing in 10 years?
In 10 years, I hope to have a wonderful family and home in Vancouver.. I hope to be able to still continue my acting career on a part time basis, while raising my family. I really want to be the type of mother and wife my mom was. Someone who is always supporting and blessing others with her generosity and love!
Is there anything you would like to tell us about yourself? Something unique that has happened to you? Some interesting thing about you?
After being scouted at a model search at age 13, I have worked as an International model in Africa, Mexico, Cuba, and Hawaii and all over Canada. It has given me so much respect for other cultures and also a love for travel. I continue to model in Vancouver and regularly work as a volunteer model for local charitable organizations.
I also am as a professional actor in Vancouver. I have worked on many films, tv shows, commercials and theatre productions. Since my first dance recital at age 3 I have always had a passion for performing!
I have taken part in, and hosted many pageants in the past. I am very excited and proud to be a part of Miss Universe Canada 2007! I love to show people that the stereotype of “pageant girls” doesn’t exist! I love to prove to them that pageants are not just about beauty, but that they provide an outlet for women to show their intelligence, confidence, femininity, talent and personality! I truly believe that it is pageants that have made me the strong, confident woman I am!
