About Melissa: 19 year old Melissa Dillman is currently a student at the College of New Caledonia, taking a bachelor of Arts with a major in History in order to achieve her goal to become an elementary school teacher. She loves to learn and wants to share her passion with young children. She believes that respect and hunger for education create a lifestyle that will be successful in any situation. She lives in a relatively small community in Northern British Columbia. She hopes to bring back a Catholic high school to her community. Her family lives on a ranch raising cattle and horses. Melissa has two younger brothers and a large extended family.

Interests: Melissa divides her time between school, work, church, volunteering, and her family.


What is the craziest thing you have ever done?

When I was 16 I traveled to Europe by myself. I loved the independence - life should be full of adventure!

What charity/charities have you supported with your time and/or resources over past two years?

I spearheaded a fundraiser in my hometown to raise funds for the Red Cross Tsunami Fund. I have volunteered at Elizabeth Fry and St. Vincent de Paul, preparing and serving food to the needy.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

Some day I will be a Canadian Ambassador to a foreign country.

Name one personal accomplishment (in addition to being a Miss Universe Canada Contestant) that makes you especially proud.

When I was 17 years old I became a piano teacher and accepted my first students. I realized that several years of hard work and commitment from both my parents and myself had resulted in the opportunity to share my skills and passion for learning with others.

What is the most important thing you want people to know about you?

I am a confident leader and can be a strong role model for Canadian women. I am proud to be Canadian.

What is your favorite movie, song, sport, and food?

MOVIE: Remember the Titans

FOOD: Italian

What would you like to accomplish if you win the Miss Universe Canada title?

I would like to promote the essence of Canadian women worldwide:

Strength, intelligence, compassion, and beauty.

Mahatma Gandhi said that "The Future depends on what we do in the present. You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
