About Maïka: Maika is presently studying to become a real estate agent and hopes to follow her mother’s footsteps. Aside from it, she studied languages, communications and singing. Maika would like to obtain the Miss Universe Canada title because she hopes her upbringing and values, added to it, would definitely help change the life of others.

For the past 3 years she has been a volunteer for “Operation Enfant Soleil” and for ANEB QUEBEC, an organization that focuses in helping people with eating disorders.

What is the craziest thing you have ever done?

One day, I had enough; enough of the people, the superficial world in which we live in, enough of the things and materialism...enough of everything! So I took my backpack and my passport and I left in the direction of the airport with hope that I can go see the world...I really needed to see other things!

Unfortunately or fortunately, once I arrived at the airport I realized that it was pointless to leave just like that suddenly and especially without preparing myself. I then turned around. But admit that it would have been a crazy thing to do! Aside from that experience, I have always been someone calm and posed, that is why I don't gather up unusual events.

What charity have you supported with your time over the past two years?

I have been a helper for Opération Enfant Soleil for 4 years now. This association helps children that have become sick and makes sure that they get treated with the right equipment and medicine that they need. I think that it's very important for me to spend my time for children that only want a small thing: to live.

What would be your dream job in life?

The best job for me has no name, but rather lots of specifications:
First, it has to make me happy and proud of doing it, it has to allow me to be in contact with people, and more importantly, I have to feel like this job helps people. I have always been a person that loves to help and I want my job to reflect that side of my personality.

Name one personal accomplishment that makes you proud

To be honest, I am proud of everything that I was able to accomplish in my life so far, because all those things make the person who I am today. If I had to choose specifically, I think that 2 things would rise:
I am proud of the woman that I have become, growing up. Proud of staying the same and that, even if I am in a world where we are constantly pushed to change to please.

When I was 14, I told on a gym teacher that was peeking on girls. In schools, we are told to speak about those kinds of things but I have been harassed because of that. Fortunately, my mother helped me, encouraged me and supported me all along. Right now, that school has even abolished Physical Gymnastics because I had rivalled against the principal. The teacher in question still teaches at that school, but I am still proud of myself because I hadn't given up despite my young age. If my action can help future generations that will go into that school, then I will have accomplished my goal!

What is the most important thing you want people to know about you?

I am a person that is always there to help and listen to people. Also, I am very respectful because I think that respect is the basis of everything. I love to meet new people, each person that I meet become a new personal discovery!

What is your favorite movie, song, sport and food?

Favorite movie: Sweet November and Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Favorite song: Goodbye my lover by James Blunt and Évangéline by Isabelle Pierre; also Unwritten by Natasha Badding field
Favorite sport: I am not a sporty person, but I love watching Hockey ( long live canadians ) and tennis ( I love Maria Sharapova).

What would you like to accomplish if you win Miss Universe Canada?

I would like to warn people about nutrition troubles and help them. It's a disaster to see that the number of people touched by that keeps increasing. The title of Miss Universe Canada could give me the necessary resources to help those people. But of course, for me that title means a privilege to help people. When I was 8 years old, I was assigned to help children of my age that had personality disorders so you can see that to me, helping people is important.

A motto that as served you as inspiration.

WORK as if you didn't need the money
DANCE as if no one watches you
SING as if no one listened to you
DREAM as if you had remained a child
GIVE as if you had nothing to lose
LOVE as if no one had ever hurt you
LIVE as if paradise was on Earth
