About Lauren: Lauren is 23 years old and recently graduated from the University of Manitoba with an advanced major in English and a minor in Theatre and French. This past September she moved from Winnipeg to Vancouver and she is currently enrolled in a performance theatre program at the Lyric School of Acting. Performing is her passion. When she is on stage, she feels as though there is no where else in the world she would rather be. She also loves people and traveling. She has met so many phenomenal people during her lifetime, and each and every person has left a treasured imprint on her. “You never know who you are going to meet, and I look forward to meeting more and more people as I continue to explore the world” she claims. She is thankful to have the most wonderful family and friends, and she feels blessed to have them in her life.

Interests: I also love running, basketball, swimming, curling, baseball, piano, photography, and hip hop dance. Lauren loves volunteering and she is a volunteer for the YWCA in Vancouver. She helps out in a downtown daycare and she also helps to organize events and fundraising for the Relay for Life for the Canadian Cancer Society.

What is the craziest thing you have ever done?

In the early hours of the morning, after a fun-filled night on the town with a few of my girlfriends, I was dared to slow dance in a late-night restaurant with a guy that I had just met that evening. There were four of us sitting and talking around a table. After a short while, since it appeared that this guy and I were getting along famously, my friend and his buddy decided that we should slow dance in the middle of the restaurant. Unfortunately, I did not share their eagerness in the matter, as you may have already guessed, there was no one else dancing.

However, my new-found friend thought that this was a fabulous idea, and quickly dragged me up to an empty space between the tables. We danced away and ultimately provided an unscheduled entertainment for the restaurant’s customers. Even though I was adamant that I was not going to dance in this particular setting, once I got up there I had a lovely time as I swayed and laughed beneath the abnormally bright lights of the dining room.

What charity/charities have you supported with your time and/or resources over the past two years?

Canadian Cancer Society

Terry Fox Foundation

Manitoba Marathon: Run for people who live with an intellectual disability.

Child Find

YWCA

I also performed in numerous plays with a local community theatre group called The Emerson Players. This theatre group is a volunteer organization that donates all funds raised from their performances to local charities, foundations and organizations that are in need of assistance. (For example, The Emerson Community Complex, the Emerson Hospital Palliative Care Room, The Green Ridge Community Hall, etc.)

What would be your “dream job” in life?

My “dream job” in life would be to act professionally in theatrical and film productions across the globe. I would love to one day have the ability to leave people’s minds racing and questioning life and human relationships after viewing one of my performances. I want to perform in such a way that I am able to inspire an audience and ultimately leave them wanting more.

Name one personal accomplishment (in addition to being a Miss Universe Canada contestant) that makes you especially proud?

Upon entrance into the University of Manitoba, I was awarded with one of the six Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarships. For first year students, this is the most prestigious of all the scholarships given by the university. I never dreamed that I would actually win this award, which is based upon criteria such as grades, school and community involvement, one’s capabilities as a leader within one’s community and society, and so much more. It was an honor to be awarded this scholarship, and I will never forget the joy and sense of accomplishment I felt after receiving “the call”.

What is the most important thing you want people to know about you?

I want people to know that I am genuine, through and through.

What are your favorite movie, song, sport, and food?

My favorite movie is “Good Will Hunting”. (It is the only movie that I have ever watched three times in one day……granted, I was sick that day, but it is still a PHENOMENAL movie. Matt Damon is sheer genius). My favorite song is “Like a Prayer” by Madonna. I know it is old school, but you have to admit, everyone feels like dancing when that tune comes on. My all-time favorite sport is basketball, but curling during the Emerson Ladies Bonspiel, with everyone clad in thematic costumes, is a very, very close second. Lastly, my favorite foods are peanut butter and ice cream……Bonus: you put those two together and…..WHA-BAM! You have one mighty fine dish.

What would you like to accomplish if you win the Miss Universe Canada title?

Winning the Miss Universe Canada title would be the opportunity of a lifetime, and if I won, I would make every last moment of it count. Over the years, I have been blessed with heaps of help and inspiration from all of the people in my life, whether it was family, friends or someone that I met on the street. All of these people have taught me something about what it is to be a truly good person. As Miss Universe Canada, I would attempt to share this inspiration with as many people and in as many ways as I possibly could. Although, we should all be benevolent and generous in our everyday lives, there is a celebrity factor that goes along with this prestigious title, and I would use it as a resourceful tool to spread inspiration and hope as far as it could go.

A motto that has served you as inspiration.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the people, places and moments that take our breath away…
